The follow through...
How often do you follow through? As parents it's far easier to threaten consequences to our little people but actually following through with them can be the most annoying thing ever.
illie is almost two and a half and is now at the joyful age of whacking, pushing and snatching from other children. At our weekly dancing class I have been threatening to leave the class if she is unkind to others but had never followed through because going to dancing is such an effort in the first place.
This week I was determined. I had worded her up and when she started to become rough with some of the other children, I warned her that we would be leaving if she continued. 10 minutes into the class she banged a tambourine over the head of a poor unsuspecting child. I picked her up and pushed the baby in the pram out of the class. Fist pumping to my friends as I pretend to be a proactive parent in the discipline of my children. Billie screamed. She screamed whilst I was attempting to strap her back into the car seat, screamed while I put the baby in and screamed the whole drive home. When she had calmed down I told her that I was cross with her actions and we talked about what she did and why it was unkind. Is two and a half too young? I don't think they're ever too young to learn kindness. Will she learn from this experience? I have no idea. I guess I'll just have to wait until the next dancing class. Wish me luck!
