Stuck on an idea for kids this christmas? Cookies in a jar is a great and cost effective gift that looks adorable whilst also giving the recipient something fun to do during the holiday season.
3/4 cups of plain flour
1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
1/4 teaspoon of bi-carb soda
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/3 cup caster sugar
3/4 cup rolled oats
100g dried canberries
130g white chocolate chips
You will also need to get a 1L glass jar with lid. You can find these all over the place now. Kmart has them for $4.
Sift together the flour, baking powder and bi-carb then stir in the salt. This is your first layer in the jar. Putting the ingredients in the jar can be a little tricky as they need to be packed in so that everything can fit. Use a spoon to make sure all of the layers are level.
The next layer is the brown sugar followed by the caster sugar, rolled oats, cranberries and finally, the white chocolate. Tighten the lid securely on the jar and finish with a festive ribbon.
You will need to attached a tag with final ingredients and cooking method.
On the tag:
125g butter, melted and cooled slightly
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Preheat oven to 190º C. Line baking tray with baking paper. Empty the jar into a bowl along with butter, egg and vanilla. Combine well. Using a spoon, gather small amounts of mixture and roll into a ball, placing them evenly on the tray. They will expand so make sure there is room between each cookie. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until lightly brown. Leave to cool and enjoy! ☺︎
